As the author of the Grant Colson Thriller Series and SERA Archives Thriller Series, I write action-adventure archaeological thrillers and love visiting unique bookstores, and Bookstar (Barnes & Noble) in Point Loma is one of the most distinctive bookshops in San Diego. The store is located inside the historic Loma Theatre, which gives it a character that most bookstores simply don’t have anymore. The interior still carries that classic theater feeling with the high ceiling and dramatic open space. Walking inside feels different from a typical bookstore, almost like stepping into a piece of San Diego history. It’s also one of the older bookstores in the area that’s still going strong. The selection is excellent and the staff has always been helpful when I’m browsing for ideas or searching for a specific title. I really appreciate the unique setup here. As a writer, being surrounded by books inside a former theater has a special atmosphere that makes browsing even more fun. Whenever I’m in the Point Loma area, I always enjoy stopping back in.

My daughter discovered this incredibly unique Barnes & Noble on TikTok, and we knew we had to go. The store is located in a beautifully preserved old movie theater, and the atmosphere is incredible. It's a very cool idea, and the book selection is impressive.

Fun vibes. Great selection of books, records, Funko’s, legos, etc. I got a book on the history of NASCAR. Love they kept the historic facade.

I had such a fun time here! I work nearby and I’d seen this bookstore multiple times and decided to go in and look around. I was not disappointed. They have a huge selection of books. They also have a hefty selection on legos and little Knick knacks. I loved roaming around and just seeing all the different things. If ever in the area I recommend going in and just looking around for fun or if you’re looking for a book I think they’ll have it available (: The kids selection is pretty big. The biggest selection I’ve seen so far!
