First - don’t be confused like I was that this is a Roy Choi restaurant. It is NOT. Yes many Korean restaurants can have last name Choi. Regardless I want to share my experience. I ordered the charred Gokujung Octopus, Cosmic Crunch Shrimp, and Dirty Korean burger. The octupos was the main winner of this meal. The gochujung sauce even has milk but they were kind to put on the side. It didn’t taste like the traditional version. The CC shrimp was unfortunately very similar to frozen butterfly shrimp from Costco. The burger while it was meaty - has one large tomato and no lettuce. Ok we can be modern but this is a core ingredient imo. Even worse was the beef patty was way too salty. Lastly to wrap up the night I got the wrong check. My summary is - the food seemed to need some major improvement. The staff was decent but the operational part of wrong check makes u wonder. I wish the management luck.

Went for the late night $1 oyster happy hour and had an incredible experience. I’ve never been taken care of so well at a restaurant before. Our waiter was very attentive and it was so nice to see the other waitstaff helping each other out whenever they could. The oysters were fabulous. The welcome drink was nice! Lamb meatballs were phenomenal. We also got dessert because it sounded so tempting on the menu- not something we usually do. It was a great experience and we loved eating here for our last meal of our San Diego vacation.

My wife and I went here for dinner expecting to eat great food based on all the high reviews and the upscale price, but we were instead left with disappointment and a big fat check with an unexpected automatic 20% gratuity fee for 2 people. Food: We got several appetizers and 3 entrees. We had the Mango Kimchi Salad, Bulgogi Birria Vampiro, Silkworm Pupa Tacos, Doenjang Risotto, Miso Lingcod, and Braised Short Rib. We got plenty of dishes to try, but unfortunately they were either simply mediocre or had an issue. The Kimchi Salad was too strong in spice and the mangos were unripe and hard. The Birria Vampiro was simply mediocre and sort of bland. Silkworm Pupa Tacos were again sort of bland. The Risotto was undercooked and crunchy instead of 'al dente'. Miso Lingcod had a very fishy taste and not much else. And the Braised Short Rib was too salty. Drinks: I got the Choi's cocktail and my wife got the Gangnam Style espresso martini. Both drinks were very well made and tasted great! Service: Unlike the food, the service was great! My son introduced us to this upscale Korean restaurant in San Diego and we had a wonderful time. Food are uniquely prepared and presented and very delicious. We were here on Saturday evening, not too crowded though. Service was very attentive and they explain everything if you have any questions. We ordered the fry chicken, lobster, rack of lamp. Everything were awesome. Parking is at parking structure and I think the validate.

If you’re looking to try something different from the usual steak, burgers, seafood, Mexican, or pizza, check out Chois for some great Korean cuisine. The staff is amazing, and if you sit at the bar, Ryle, Josh, and JP will keep you entertained. If you’re nice enough, they might even let you try a shot of their Kraken soju concoction. They do some really interesting things with their soju mixes, experimenting with different alcohol recipes and flavors. We love kimchi, so we started with the kimchi salad, which was great. Since we were feeling pretty hungry, we decided to try the Tomahawk. After reading the description, I was expecting something a bit saltier, more along the lines of a traditional steakhouse flavor. The item is called the Galbi Tomahawk, and the description does hint that it’s different, but it still surprised us a bit. It’s also something you normally have to order 24 hours in advance, but we got lucky because someone else didn’t show up for their reservation. It is a bit pricey, and while it was good, we weren’t expecting the sweeter flavor profile.
