I walked into this bookstore excited to support a local business and look for a specific book. Before asking for help, I was checking my phone to find the exact title and author. The person working there immediately made me feel uncomfortable, asking in a rude tone, “You have a question? Yeah, on your phone?” When I showed him the book I was looking for, he didn’t check the system, look around, or make any effort to help. He simply said, “No, not that one. I have thousands of books, but that one.” Then he told me I should just buy it on my phone, in a very dismissive and condescending way. The issue was not that they didn’t have the book. I understand small bookstores can’t carry everything. The issue was the way I was spoken to and the complete lack of basic customer service. A simple “We don’t have that one, but I can help you find something similar” would have been completely fine. Instead, I left feeling unwelcome, judged, and genuinely upset. I came in hoping to have a peaceful afternoon buying coffee and reading, and I walked out in tears. Unfortunately, I would not feel comfortable returning. Wonderful, I have been going here for years. They have a $1 alleyway with lots of beautiful vintage books. The shop is lovely and peaceful. I always enjoy my experience.

I've said it before and I'll say it again—I love how the San Diego area is filled with funky used bookstores and book lovers everywhere! D.G. Wills Books in La Jolla is a fantastic find. The place is packed with eclectic books, and I spotted several author readings advertised, which is always a bonus. It has that perfectly cluttered, literary charm that makes you want to browse for hours. I love it!

I arrived and was directed to leave my drink on the shelf located at the entrance of the store. No drinks are allowed inside the store near the books. I recommend not going in with a drink to avoid the hassle. The older gentleman staff was informative and helpful. He offered help to find any book/section in the store. The place seemed organized while messy.

A true bookstore gem. Selling new and used books, this is the kind of place you could lose a few hours perusing the bookshelves. The owners are delightful and very helpful, and have been in the book business for over 40 years. Every corner of this unique shop is filled to the brim, with an extensive and unique collection of books. They definitely don't make them like this anymore.
