A really great hostel in so many aspects. The staff (incl. volunteers) is amazing, helpful, friendly, and super cool to hang out with. The inside is cool, spacious, and well ventilated. The kitchen is well equipped and respected. The location is the best you can imagine, right in the middle of historic artsy downtown. the balcony is best, overlooking one of the most picturesque streets, inviting for people watching. Also, it was perfect to leave my bike while I had to leave for two days without it.

Absolutely Terrible! Total Management Failure and Disastrous Facilities I have traveled to Mexico four times, and this was by far the worst accommodation experience I have ever had. I wanted a simple place to spend the night in this historic city, but this hotel was an absolute nightmare. The A/C is a joke: The hostel regulates that the air conditioning can only be used at night, which I could understand. Since the room was unbearably hot during the day, I went out. However, when I returned at 9:30 PM, dripping with sweat, the A/C was still not working. Four or five guests in the dorms were suffocating from the heat and couldn't even stay in their rooms. Meanwhile, the receptionist was casually chatting with a guest in the living room, completely oblivious to the situation and ignoring everyone else. Disastrous Shower: The water pressure in the shower was shockingly low—it was literally dripping. It is impossible for anyone with long hair to wash their hair there. I ended up having to wash my hair in the sink because the water was slightly more concentrated. To make matters worse, there was no hot water at all. Desert Heart Hostel is the best place to stay in San Jose! Located in the Center, you’re steps away from the plaza, bars and best restaurants. Miguel is a fantastic host, always accommodating and kind, as well as all the volunteers and workers there. I have stayed here for weeks in total, and every time I am welcomed into a beautiful environment that attracts guests from all around the world to share stories and experiences. The prices are the best in town and simply the most affordable way to experience the special town of San Jose. I can’t wait to return!

I have left 5 star reviews before and after visiting Desert Heart Hostel, I wish I hadn't. I now realize I’ve been out here throwing 5 stars around like confetti at a toddler’s birthday party, and none of those other restaurants or other places deserved it. Desert Heart Hostel ruined the rating system for me. Everything before this was a lie. All of my past reviews and ratings... lies... I was such a fool. Where do I start? The staff? Hmmmm disgustingly friendly. Like, calm your palms.. Why are ya'll this nice? Please send my regards to whoever raised you all because they did something right. The stay was so comfortable I started questioning my life choices back home.. Am I living life comfortably? Should I believe moving and living out of a hostel in Cabo. What was the atmosphere like? Good question. Imagine if a Mexican beach oasis, a therapy session, and a road trip playlist all got together and had a baby kitten named snuffles who played with a yarn of string all day... That’s this place. Now every other stay feels like a punishment so thank you to all of your staff and all of your amazing hospitality hostel.. You’ve set the bar so high, I’m going to need to chew a 5 hour red
