Los Angeles is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Los Angeles is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Why Hotel Figueroa? I like old, classic hotels, the daily rate was reasonable, and it’s across the street from LA Live, where Crypto.com Arena is located. There are nicer options, including the Ritz-Carlton, the JW Marriott adjacent to LA Live but the room rates for those properties were two to three times what I paid. The hotel was constructed in 1925, and you can see that in the layout. There are stairways in the halls to take you from floor to floor. That was faster than waiting for one of the two elevators servicing the building. The layout of the building reminds me of the St. Francis in San Francisco … The building looks like the letter E, with three wings connected at one end. There are a bar and restaurant on the ground level inside the building and there is another bar and the swimming pool at the West end of the building. Someone said there’s a rooftop bar, but I didn’t go and check it out. My room (624) was at the southwest corner of the hotel. You entered a somewhat narrow living room. To the left was a recess for a bar and refrigerator. A glass-paneled door led to the bedroom. Inside the bedroom was a king bed, two chairs and a small table near the windows. At the ot

Café Fig, the hotel's restaurant, was a highlight. Breakfast options included burritos and pancakes, both genuinely good. Staff throughout the stay were consistently kind and helpful. My main complaint: humidity in my room stayed above 90% for most of my stay. The AC was cooling the room fine, but doing nothing to dehumidify it. I raised this with staff, and they immediately sent someone to have a look, who told me it was working as intended since the room was cool and there was nothing to be done. During the stay I developed a large, inflamed bump on my cheek that had me a little worried, but it faded within a day or two of getting home. It's hard to say for certain, but the constant dampness seems like a plausible contributing factor. Again, I am not sure if this happens to all rooms, maybe it was luck. A few other notes: the building shows its age, and one elevator was out of order during part of my stay. The gym is on the smaller side. Location-wise, this is a great choice if you're attending anything at the LA Convention Center.

Wonderful Stay in Downtown LA! Hotel Figueroa was a fantastic place to stay. The location is excellent, making it easy to explore downtown Los Angeles and many nearby attractions. The hotel has a unique character, beautiful design, and a relaxing atmosphere that made my stay even more enjoyable. A special shout-out to Bryan, Nicole, and Gabriela for their outstanding hospitality. They were genuinely friendly, professional, and always willing to help, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. Their excellent service truly made a difference. I had a great experience overall and would happily stay here again on my next visit to Los Angeles. :D Highly recommended!

Overall, we had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Figueroa. Although our suite was a little on the small side, the service was outstanding. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly, and whenever we requested something, it was delivered promptly. There was one occasion when we waited about 20 minutes for bottled water, but after calling again, it was brought to our room almost immediately. The main area that could be improved is the air conditioning in the bedroom. Our suite had two separate AC units—one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The living room unit was fairly quiet, but the bedroom unit was extremely noisy regardless of the setting. Since the room felt quite humid, we wanted to keep the bedroom AC on at night, but it was too loud to sleep. We ended up leaving the living room AC running and keeping the bedroom door open instead. One helpful tip for guests driving to the hotel: the hotel’s valet parking is listed at $65 per night, but there’s a public parking lot right next to the hotel that was only about $10 per day during our stay. I wish the hotel had mentioned this as an option on its website. If you’re renting a car, it’s definitely worth checking out. Over
