San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Traffic in San Francisco peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. I've been coming to Lehr's since the very late 70s, early 80s, when my cousins & I used to go in for treats. It remains one of my favorite places in the city. This is where I find imported German foods, candies & specialty items I can't get anywhere else. Yesterday, I picked up picnic finds of herbed butter & small herbed spreadable cheeses, ready-to-bake bread, cheeses from Oakdale Creamery, canned fish (a real gift find w/ the varieties), and the new vegan patés, snack crackers, and much more. We love great finds like the Haribo candies WITHOUT artificial colors or flavors, their incredible selection of Milka chocolates ... the liqueur cakes, all the mustards, my personal favorite jams like gooseberry & sour cherry I've been buying for years. I always discover something new with each visit. For me, what really makes this place special is the seasonal gift-making experience. During Easter (Osterhörner?) & Christmas (Weihnachtskegel?) they stock beautiful empty cones in lots of different colors, patterns & styles. You fill them yourself with treats you find throughout the shop... the treats, candies, crackers, chocolates & everything you need to create personalized holiday gifts. I

Lehr’s has been a staple in SF and is now under new ownership. Hannah is such a fantastic person and we really enjoy coming here. The store carries a variety of products from chocolates over spätzle and even fresh pretzel. They also have seasonal items for Easter, Christmas, and carnival. Thank you for ensuring there’s always curry ketchup in our household, Hannah!

Well-stocked assortment of German, Austrian and Swiss preserves, sauces, dried goods, chocolates and snacks near-impossible to find outside of Europe. German style breads, cheese and sausages — an extra added plus. Rare-find Haribo make for an excellent gift, for young and old alike.
