Beautiful building! We got married here and it was super affordable. We also did a photo shoot throughout the building. It is very busy but people were pretty considerate if they saw you taking photos.

Absolutely stunning building inside and out. Worth a visit, check out the architecture on the inside. It has been maintained beautifully. Plenty of nice photo opportunities and you might catch a wedding or two! There are toilets inside and a small cafe if needed

San Francisco City Hall is easily one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. I worked in the Civic Center area for over ten years and walked past it daily, and it never got old. Even recently, when I stopped by to run a quick errand, I found myself slowing down just to take it all in again. It’s one of those places that feels just as impressive the hundredth time as it does the first. Inside, it’s even more striking. The grand rotunda, sweeping marble staircase, and overall scale make it feel more like a historic landmark than a typical government building. During my last visit, there were several couples there for wedding ceremonies, which brought a really nice energy to the space, lots of happy faces, and a celebratory atmosphere. It’s also a popular spot for photos, so don’t be surprised to see photographers and small groups capturing the moment. There’s a lot of history behind the building as well. The original City Hall was largely destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, and the current one was designed by Arthur Brown Jr. in a Beaux-Arts style as part of the city’s rebuilding effort. After 100+ weddings at San Francisco City Hall, I can tell you exactly where to be and when. The grand staircase hits perfectly mid-morning — soft, even light from the dome, no flash needed. The fourth floor balcony is chronically underused and gives you a stunning aerial of the rotunda most couples never see. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the sweet spot — civil ceremony traffic thins by 11am.
