About The Asian Bistro
For 71 years, this historic San Diego restaurant at 414 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92103 has been passed down through generations—serving bold, comforting Asian cuisine with modern fusion twists. Our menu spans Thai-inspired curries, wok-fired stir-fries, noodle soups, and house specialties, all made in-house from scratch. We’re especially known for our duck—slow-crafted, deeply seasoned, and featured in signature dishes that keep guests coming back. From our house-made sauces to rich broths simmered down to the bones, every dish is built on real technique and real flavor. We also offer daily specials and happy hour every day, and we open late for when the cravings hit after hours.

I couldn't have had better food. This place has some of the most delicious food I've ever tasted. Yellow curry, crispy chicken, with egg fried rice was "heavenly". The House fried chicken was perfectly crispy and seasoned. And the stick rice with Mango was so delicious. It's been about a week and I can't stop thinking about the food. I live in Los Angeles and am sad I can't eat here ever week. But I know next time I come to San Diego, I'll absolutely be coming back here.

I ordered 2 orders of their House Fried Chicken that is stated to be "chicken thighs fried to perfection". Sure, if a cut up chicken thigh is then fried until void of any moisture or tenderness. It should be renamed House Super Tough Chicken Jerky. Unfortunately, I did a double order because I was hankering for some fried chicken. $70 for a couple of overcooked, dried-out and cut up (not even whole) thighs was very disappointing 😞

My friend invited me to the reopening in Lunar New Year experience and while we had to wait 2 hours for seating due to the performance and already being booked solid, it was definitely worth the wait! The hot and sour soup was spot-on, the garlic and mom made was divine and the best mango sticky rice ever! I wanted the strawberry lychee martini wish they were out of but an alternative was a plum wine with carbonation which was so so good and I got a nice pour. I can eat this whole combo again very soon and can't wait to go back!

I have been ordering DoorDash from Asian Bistro for years and good reason… their food quality is ALWAYS consistent and has the best flavor. So good that I’ll be at a bar 1:30am and order before I leave so it’s waiting for me when I get home I highly recommend the Mother Chili wings pictured here. 10/10 always along with the BBQ chicken which is my other fav

After our trip to the San Diego Zoo with the boys, it was time for dinner! I tried the crab fried rice, which was good (I couldn’t even finish it, haha!). My husband enjoyed his drunken noodles with a nice kick of spice, just the way he likes it. There’s so much to try here, and I’m glad we gave it a shot. The place is busy, in a great location, and the server was really nice. Definitely worth it!
