I would advise you to skip summer visit. The tickets are free but you pay for parking. There is very little air conditioning. It's extremely hot in the summer. I would caution against taking kids as there were a lot of sexual and nude stuff. I was not prepared for that. It's smaller than you think we took maybe 1 hr and was done. I wished it had more historical artifacts. Maybe if we took the guided tour? Not something I would go back to.

The Getty Villa is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Southern California. From the moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by stunning architecture, peaceful gardens, and breathtaking ocean views. The museum is thoughtfully designed, and the collection of ancient Greek and Roman art is fascinating, even if you’re not a history enthusiast. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, making it the perfect place to slow down and spend a few hours exploring. The staff were welcoming, everything was well maintained, and the timed entry made the visit feel uncrowded. Parking was convenient, and the entire experience felt well organized. Whether you’re interested in art, history, photography, or simply looking for a beautiful escape, the Getty Villa is absolutely worth visiting. I can’t wait to go back!

A drive from LA 🚗 but what a museum! The Getty Villa 🏛️features a large collection of antiquities, including sculptures, mosaics, and pottery 🏺set within Mediterranean-style gardens with fountains and reflecting pools. 🪴 I booked my reservation online (admission is free, but timed-entry reservations are required). Lots of photo ops! ✨ 📸 💖 so glad I was able to visit. There were also complementary umbrellas 🌂 for use while visiting to help with the brightly shining sun ☀️. I didn’t get a chance to visit The Getty Center but it’ll be on my list the next time I’m in the area! 🗺️

The Getty Villa is both an educational center and an art museum located at the eastern end of the Malibu coast in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles, California. As one of the two campuses of the J. Paul Getty Museum, it is dedicated to the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. Its collection includes 44,000 Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities dating from 6,500 BC to 400 AD, featuring notable pieces such as the Lansdowne Heracles and the Victorious Youth. The Getty Villa was founded by businessman and art collector J. Paul Getty (1892–1976). We visited the Getty Villa on June 8, 2026, and found it to be an excellent family-friendly destination. Admission is free, with only a $25 parking fee, making it an affordable outing. The museum’s collection is truly breathtaking, showcasing everything from sculptures and mummies to jewelry and sarcophagi—each piece telling a remarkable story. We spent about two hours exploring on our own, which seemed just right, taking time to read the exhibits and capture photos. This was my first time visiting the Getty Villa, and personally, I liked it even more than the Getty Center! It felt much more relaxed and allowed me to truly soak in the beautiful nature. It was especially fascinating to learn that J. Paul Getty recreated the Villa dei Papiri, an ancient Italian villa that was buried by a volcano. The beautifully landscaped gardens and the exhibition halls were simply stunning and perfectly designed. 🌿🏛️ The outdoor garden with the large fountain overlooks the magnificent Pacific Ocean, making it an absolute dream spot for taking photos. Just be aware that many people line up for pictures, so you should expect some crowds if you are visiting on a weekend. The restaurant and cafe right in front of the outdoor amphitheater are also very well set up, providing a lovely spot to sit outside, relax, and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere. 🌊📸 A quick tip about parking, the fee is $25, but if you visit the Getty Center on the same day, you can get the parking fee waived at the other location, and it works both ways! If I have guests visiting from out of town again in the future, this will definitely be the number one spot I take them to. Highly recommended!
