San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Francisco is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

My 2 kids loved it. You can spend a few hrs there easily, and still not do all the experiments. So much to learn in so many different new ways. 100% recommend for 6 and up

Hands down the best museum we’ve ever been to! We had an absolute blast here with our 2 kids. It’s huge, completely interactive, and honestly just as fun for the adults as it is for the kids. We went early right when it opened so it was way less crowded, which let us easily spend 6 to 7 hours exploring without the kids getting overwhelmed. The water and bubble exhibits were a massive hit with the little ones, and it is totally stroller-friendly to walk around. Everything is designed to be touched and experimented with, so you don't have to constantly tell the kids "don't touch." Our only main tip for parents is about lunch. The restaurant inside gets incredibly busy, and with kids, you might have to wait a while to get an appropriate table. Aside from the restaurant rush, it is a bit pricey but 100% worth it for a full day of awesome family fun.

Visitors say this museum offers a vast array of interactive, hands-on exhibits that make science engaging and fun for all ages, including adults. They also highlight the clean and well-maintained facilities, including spotless restrooms, and the helpful, friendly staff. Guests mention the value of the admission price, especially with available discounts, and recommend allowing several hours to explore everything.

I remember this place when I was a kid and wanted to share the experience with our kids turning 10. We got there around 11:00am, stayed until 5:15pm, and still did not see everything. It just gives us another reason to come back. It is good for children and adults with inquisitive minds.

The Exploratorium in San Francisco has been around since 1969, the original home was at the Palace of Fine Arts but moved to its current location at Pier 15 and Pier 17 on San Francisco’s waterfront since 2013. This place is perfect for kids: 2 years old and over. Technically, it’s great for all ages. There are so many hands-on activities everywhere you go! You can definitely be here for 5+ hours! There are outside activities as well. As far as food and where to eat, as of January 2026, The Tinkering Table Restaurant has taken over the Seaglass Restaurant. There’s also a cafe located at the front that’s connected inside and outside of the museum. To get to the Exploratorium, I recommend taking public transportation when possible, there’s ferry and BART, it’s a good 15 minutes walk from the Ferry Building, you can also take the F Line Streetcar/ Muni and it will take you there to the front. Although there’s parking lots and street parking, it can add up and be expensive! I’ve been here at this location and at the Palace of Fine Arts location as a kid when I used to go for field trips! Now I go with my daughter, nieces and nephews! Would I go again?! Absolutely! Maybe one day I’
