The Hostel California is perfectly nestled in one of the coolest neighbourhoods in San Diego, with easy bus access to both downtown and the beaches. Andy and the hostel's guests were so friendly, you'll meet someone from every part of the world, especially as a solo traveler. The beautiful backyard is draped in sunlight, with plenty of space so you never feel crowded by other guests. 10/10 would recommend.

I stayed here for a couple weeks and loved it! Everyone who was there at the time was so friendly and from all around the world which exposed me to so many different backgrounds! The hostel was close to so many cool places and overall it was such a vibe! Definitely recommend checking out!

No bueno! I contacted the Hillcrest Hostel through Instagram letting them know that a part of the van Life Community and will be rolling into town with my 3-month-old beautiful puppy. I asked him what their facility fee was so that we can come in and say hello take a shower and whatnot. They said we are not welcome because they have a cat. I do have a passport and you should really recheck your discrimination policies. Although the area surrounding this hostel is very vanlife friendly and you can park anywhere around the streets as long as it's not a red zone, I found that there are much much better hostels around town like the ith Beach Bungalow in Pacific Beach for the Samesun Hostel in Ocean Beach. There you'll find much friendlier people and a much cooler environment.

Closest Hostel to Balboa Park and their famous Zoo! This International House of Travelers offers the most fun cultural exchange and party combination of any San Diego hostel experience. Located in Hillcrest, just 5 minutes left to Gaslamp airy the most eclectic neighborhood bar and restaurants 1 block away!

The moment we arrived, Gabriel offered to cook us dinner! Unlike a lot of hostels, there is a home-y vibe where it's easy to talk to everyone. Drew is super adorable and upgraded our room. Sophie went out of her way to invite me to a Clothing Swap party at her amazing shop (go visit if you need a stylist). They are so chill, sweet and thoughtful. It's very much "my house is your house." We are non-smokers so we were a little worried that it would be a hot box (no judgement). But for a 420-friendly place, it didn't smell like 420! (But had fun, easy, laid back 420 vibes.) We were only passing through for a night but I'd like to return with friends to stay a while longer. Oh, and the bathroom was CLEAN!! Rare in hostel situations. Plenty of towels and shampoo although we brought our own since it was such a great value that we wanted to support in any small ways we could.
