After staying at Samesun by OB, and HI Downtown, my expectations were to find a similar hostel. For the price I paid for a private room during a busy weekend, it met my needs, and expectations. I don’t know how the experience is for those sharing bunk beds with others. Staff was helpful, some (one person) not really friendly. He looks like he just hates life, and people in general. Must be tired of working, so I don’t blame him. About cleanliness, you can tell staff does the best of their capacities to keep the installations clean. It always smelled like floor cleaning product, and actually even better than HI Downtown. In the hallways and common areas, the urine smell that characterizes these old buildings was not as strong as in HI, it was actually almost imperceptible. There is a smoking area, which I don’t like, it’s also 4/20 friendly, so all the smoke from both cigarettes and joints could be perceived as well. The room (Greece) overall was clean, I guess. Urine/mold smell was strong inside, and air circulation is very poor and it felt very hot the whole time, as they don’t have A/C. They have a fan, but it pretty much was blowing/circulating hot air. We stayed here as a group of 5 friends for a week and paid a $100 cash security deposit ($20 per person). The night before our checkout, our flight got cancelled and we had to rebook an earlier one, so we checked out the evening before. The staff told us they would mail our deposit back to us, but refused to refund it any other way, no bank transfer, no phone contact, nothing. We never received anything. We followed up multiple times and kept being told “the person in charge isn’t here.” A friend who stayed here a month later asked about it and got the exact same response. It’s now clear this is just a tactic to avoid returning deposits, especially to foreign travelers who are leaving the country. On top of that, the rooms were not well maintained, the sheets felt old and not fully clean, and the hallways were poorly insulated and noisy. Some of the long-term residents also made the atmosphere uncomfortable.

I gave 5 stars because you can't beat the price and staff. Experience may vary however for me the smoke areas are the gem. Not having to smoke in the street like im on timeout is an amazing addition to the experience of the stay. Many bathrooms and showers lots of kitchen amenities. Central location definitely recommend.

Classic you got what you paid for. I got a private room and everything is in the "barely acceptable" level. The worker in the morning is insanely rude (when I got there to leave my bags the day of the check-in I was greeted with "what do you want? I am busy here"). The one at night was a cool guy tho. Furniture is incredibly old (and likely had fleas/bedbugs), and let just say the crowd that stays there is not the most sophisticated one. On the bright side the location is perfect if you have business in downtown (some 7min walking to the conference center/green line), and it's much much cheaper than anything in the area, then you can save a lot of money staying here and eating the pancakes in the breakfast
