Me and my husband were passing by and had to try. And it did not disappoint. Everything was great. Food was fresh, orange juice natural, and the place is very nice and well kept. If we were from California, we would definitely come back.

Stopped by Mel’s Drive-In with the family and had a pretty good time. The food tasted good, the kids menu had solid options, and the whole place had that classic diner feel. The banana shake was probably the best part. It was thick, creamy, and tasted like an actual old-school diner shake, not something rushed or watered down. Only real downside was the price. The food was good, but it was definitely more expensive than I expected for what it was. Overall I’d give it about a 7/10. Good stop with the family, just a little pricey.

As someone who deeply values operational excellence and tangible value, my dinner at Mel’s Drive-In was a masterclass in how a classic American diner should be managed. Located right in the vibrant heart of Hollywood, this iconic spot is an immediate standout for its pristine upkeep. The chrome accents gleam, the classic booths are immaculate, and the entire retro space radiates a level of cleanliness that commands immediate respect. The menu delivers on the promise of true homestyle food, executed with premium ingredients. The grass-fed beef burgers are expertly seared and remarkably juicy, while the hand-dipped milkshakes offer a rich, authentic depth of flavor that puts modern fast-casual competitors to shame. It is comfort food elevated by a clear commitment to quality control and culinary consistency. What truly elevates Mel's from a nostalgic novelty into a premier dining destination, however, is the service. The staff operates with remarkable efficiency and sharp attentiveness. Orders are processed swiftly, refills materialize seamlessly, and the hospitality is genuinely warm without ever feeling forced. Mel’s Drive-In isn’t just trading on its mid-century heritage; it is

Classic Hollywood diner experience with a super fun retro atmosphere. The neon signs, old-school decor, and location right on Sunset Blvd make it feel like stepping into a movie scene. Great spot to stop after exploring Hollywood, especially at night when everything lights up. Food was solid, service friendly, and the vibe is really what makes this place special. The area around Mel’s also felt much safer and cleaner than parts of Hollywood Boulevard, which made it a comfortable place to walk around and enjoy the atmosphere. There’s also a convenient paid parking lot right next to it for around $6, which makes visiting really easy for Hollywood standards. Touristy? Yes — but in a good, iconic LA way.

We stopped by Mel’s Diner before seeing a Jimmy Kimmel taping, mostly because of its iconic reputation. The ambiance definitely delivers classic décor and a fun, nostalgic vibe. As for the food, it’s solid but nothing out of the ordinary. The patty melt was the standout and genuinely delicious. My girlfriend’s BLT was a bit underwhelming, though still enjoyable. Overall, Mel’s is worth a visit for the ambiance and the experience, but for the price point, there are definitely other spots we’d try before returning.
