On June 10 at about 2:42 PM, I went to the Financial Aid Office and had a negative experience with the front desk employee. I was struggling with English and trying to understand what she was asking. She was speaking very fast, which made me confused. When she asked for an ID, I thought she was asking for my student ID number. I told her I did not have the number memorized. She then said out loud, “You don’t even have an ID?” in front of other people. The way she said it made me feel embarrassed and singled out. As someone who is still learning English, I felt judged because of my language difficulties. The comment and tone came across as disrespectful and made me feel uncomfortable asking for help.

It’s fine if you just need credits, a lot Of students don’t even speak English. There are homeless people everywhere. What happened to San Diego?

I absolutely love City College <3 took about a year worth of GE courses as I took a gap year from my University and the people ive meet and the vibe are very friendly. Professor Evashko is the abslute GOAT I highly recommend taking her if you need to complete a Geology (physical scince req) The Campus is located in Downtown San Diego and has many food+transit options to get here. Absolutely worth going out of my way from Eastlake to commute.

I haven't attended classes here, not yet anyways, but I am staying nearby temporarily and I adore this campus and the ideas expressed around the campus - on signs, artwork, billboards, etc ... I went to Mesa College back in 2010-2013, and look back at it as one of the best schools I've ever attended. Unlike UC San Diego, the classes are not so huge that human connection is impossible. Things are small and tidy, and feel more supportive of actual scholarship. I use the free wi-fi on the campus sometimes, and although some look at me like some freeloading bum, I'm actually working on some things, and pretty sure I'm using the campus for it's intended purpose. I've returned to San Diego after a decade away, since getting my BA at UCSD back in 2013, and hope to take a few classes here.
