It was an interesting landmark that was unfortunately 50% functional on the day of our visit. The light show was amazing but without the sound accompaniment that was not working that day the effect was underwhelming. Looking forwards to seeing both elements work in harmony the next time we visit.

Turned off? Or not working? Like 3 of the rings were partially lit and no music was playing ... Kinda sad..

Nice area just watch out for the bikers and the people who talk to themselves out loud other than that , its a cool place to have drinks and skate at night !

Sonic Runway was first installed at Burning Man 2016 and brought to downtown San Jose along with some other art pieces through the Playa de Paseo partnership with Burning Man. The city actually only had these installations for less than a year until 2018 but brought back the Sonic Runway due to popular demand in 2021. It will be on display until 2028. Time will pass faster than you think. The light patterns travel at the speed of sound and reach you as you hear the music. It plays from 5pm to midnight. Most of the music is Lo-Fi and the light designs are coordinated very well. As there are many electric scooters in downtown San Jose, it is always epic to whiz through this instead of around it because why not? And pretend you are traveling at the speed of sound to somewhere at the end of the tunnel. You can also hit up the other light installations in downtown SJ which include the lights under the 87 overpass that sync to pedestrian foot patterns or another light projection that changed with the weather forecast. They all sound more complicated than they are and there is even a colored lights one that you can change with your phone by scanning a code.
