TONO is one of my favorite coffee shops in San Jose. I take all my friends here if they are visiting from out of town or need a coffee/matcha/hojicha recommendation. The coffee is 9/10 times really good. I almost always get a regular latte without sweetener. I have been there once or twice where the oatmilk overpowered the espresso flavor. The matcha is batched, which I don't mind because its pretty darn tasty and delicious. The hojicha is also batched and it's my favorite when i don't want too much caffeine. The pastries they offer are amazing. I try a new one every time I go. Service is very lovely. The baristas always make you feel like an old friend. Love sitting in front of the murals outside.

I have been to Tono Coffee Project several times over the past couple of years and I have had very positive experiences every time. The coffee was delicious, I got a mocha that was the perfect blend of chocolatey and sweet. The barista who made my coffee was very kind and seemed to genuinely care about how my day was going. I highly recommend stopping off and grabbing a bite to eat and a coffee if you are in the area. I wish the cookies had more than one almond in them.

Loved their professionally made coffee from beans from Portland and Seattle roasters. (Heart and Olympia) The shop design is clean and minimalist, but they actually have a wide selection of pastries and snacks. Very chill and friendly staff! It’s a hidden gem besides the railway.

Coffee first, probably the best in this area. You can taste that they are passionate about good coffee and know what they’re doing. They only use oat milk as a default, but it tastes wonderful with the espresso. Simple, small set up. Has pastries, an array of chocolates. Even some really exotic flavors like lemon ants and durian. Must try if you’re a coffee lover. They have outdoor seating, some tables and chairs. Ambiance is perfect for a weekend coffee.

Parking is easy and free with street parking around San Jose Japantown. I like coming here in the morning for a hot black decaf coffee. The barista seems to change between morning and afternoon. The café is located in an apartment lobby, so there’s no indoor seating, but the outdoor seating is quiet and relaxing. They only offer oat milk, which is good to know in advance. It’s decaf, but it really tastes like regular coffee. I’ve had it about seven times so far, and only twice it tasted a bit weak. Overall, the quality has been quite consistent.
