Had a really great experience at Urban India in San Diego. Being a vegetarian, I tried their Vegetable Biryani and absolutely loved it - full of flavor and generous in portion. What I really liked was the variety on the menu along with their daily specials. It genuinely felt comforting to find authentic Indian food while traveling - almost like a little “home away from home.” The staff was warm and welcoming, and the overall vibe of the place made the experience even better. Definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting San Diego and looking for good Indian food!

Honest review from someone half Indian, who has been to India. TL;DR: excellent food, service, and ambiance (as good or better than many meals I’ve had in India) with two fairly minor criticisms/recommendations, and a few minor suggestions. Basically DO get the bullet naan; the rice is probably better in biryani than in a side, and I was IN LOVE with their use of spices in everything (well balanced with depth of flavor, not just one note). Last, I hesitate to say this but if you’re salt sensitive like this 50 year old, you may want to ask for low salt (which I should have done). I really don’t understand why this restaurant was half empty when I went in at 8pm on a Wednesday, but smart people should notice it’s a mostly Indian clientele from what I saw. When I walk in and everyone is Desi, I know the food is good. Highlights first and minor criticisms at the end. I stumbled in to Urban India at the end of a long day of travel, because it was across from my hotel, and because, as much as I love Mexican and Asian food I was craving low salt after all the salty food on the plane and at the airport. It wasn't busy on a Friday evening, so we were granted top-notch service. The atmosphere was nice, and the food was good. Kingfisher beer wasn't available and American music was playing in lieu of Bollywood music. Otherwise, it gave us pretty much what we were looking for out of an Indian restaurant.

If you’re craving Indian food and want to wake up your taste buds, this place is perfect. The flavours are rich, the food tastes fresh, and every dish feels spot-on. The service is warm and quick, which makes the whole experience even better. A great spot to enjoy a good meal and walk out happy.
