San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Francisco follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

One of the most interesting places to visit in San Francisco! We really enjoyed the whole experience. There is an audio guide available in Russian, which was a great bonus and made the visit even more enjoyable. We didn't make a reservation in advance and simply bought our tickets on-site. There was enough room for all visitors on the ferry, both on the way there and on the return trip. The entire visit took about 3 hours, including the ferry ride. There is plenty to see and explore, and the ferry ride itself is part of the experience. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to San Francisco. I highly recommend visiting!

Visiting Alcatraz Island was easily one of the highlights of our trip. My wife and I had an amazing experience from start to finish. The ferry ride over offers incredible views of the San Francisco skyline, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the bay, making the trip itself worth it. Once on the island, the history is fascinating. Walking through the old prison and listening to the self guided audio tour really brings the stories of the inmates and guards to life. You can explore the cell blocks, solitary confinement, the recreation yard, and so many other areas while learning about famous inmates and the prison’s history. It is incredibly well done and keeps you engaged the entire time. The scenery is just as impressive as the history. The views from the island are absolutely breathtaking, and there are so many great photo opportunities. It is hard to believe such a beautiful place once housed one of the most famous prisons in the world. Everything was well organized, the staff was friendly, and the island was clean and easy to explore at your own pace. If you are visiting San Francisco, this is a must do attraction. My wife and I had an awesome time and would recommend it to anyone.

Great experience! We booked the tour 5 months in advance to make sure we secured a spot for our visit as we didn't want to miss out. The ferry ride was quick, but it was packed! There were a lot of people. Once on the island you could space out away from the crowds in parts. The view of the bay, the bridge and island were incredible. The history in this place is astonishing! We did the self guided audio tour which was great as we could take our time. If you're visiting San Francisco, Alcatraz Island is not to be missed! Worth every cent!

The audio tour of the cell block was pretty sweet. Also, the views from the island are cool. One thing to be aware of if you are sensitive to it, is that the whole island smells like acrid bird poop. We went on a week day and it seemed like there was a lot of field trips going there. If you don't want to be surrounded by middle schoolers, you may want to consider taking the evening tour.

Visiting Alcatraz Island was easily one of the highlights of my trip. We found reasonably priced tickets online and took the ferry from Pier 33. The ferry itself was great β€” clean, spacious, and not overcrowded at all, even though it was technically β€œfull.” There’s food, beer, and wine available onboard, and the ride over is absolutely beautiful. It’s also a bit farther out than you might expect, which makes the experience feel even more unique. As soon as you arrive, the island is stunning. Be prepared though β€” there’s quite a bit of uphill walking to get to the top, but it’s completely worth it for the views and the overall atmosphere. There’s so much history to take in, with plenty of spots to stop, explore, and read along the way. One of the best parts of the experience is the audio tour inside the prison. You’re given headphones, and the tour is incredibly immersive, detailed, and well done. It really brings the history of the island to life. Another thing I appreciated is that the ferry gives you flexibility with multiple return times, so you can truly take your time exploring without feeling rushed. The island is easy to navigate, and they provide a map to help guide you
