We came to this Hertz location hoping to exchange a vehicle that had serious cleanliness and condition issues after we picked up from another location since all other locations were closed. Unfortunately, the experience here was even worse because of the customer service. The employee immediately told us there were no cars available and that there was nothing she could do. Instead of trying to help or offering any alternatives, she made us feel like we were being rushed out. When we showed her the problems with the car, she dismissed them and said they weren't a big deal. We explained that the vehicle was extremely dirty, with trash left inside from the previous renter. Her response was, "What do you want me to do? Do you want me to take all this little trash out for you?" She then sarcastically bent down and picked up just a few small pieces of trash to make her point. She did not actually clean the vehicle or address any of the issues we had raised. The car remained dirty, and none of the other problems were resolved. Very poor experience on a Friday late morning in June at SJC. I had a reservation made previously online and arrived to a long line of customers with only 3 of 6 windows open to receive customers. The woman at the Hertz Gold member refused to take anyone who wasn't a Gold member, although the line reserved for Gold members was empty. Waited for 30 minutes before I got my car, which had the "check engine oil" light on - not comforting before a long drive (which was indicated in my reservation, with a different drop-off location). Fortunately, a kind young Hertz employee who I was able to flag checked the engine oil for me on the spot and confirmed that it was fine. I turned in the vehicle less than 24 hours later, honoring the reservation I had made for 1 day. A couple of days later, I received an invoice for more than DOUBLE the rate that had been quoted to me. I called my local branch (where I had dropped off) and the main line and couldn't get through to any human / couldn't get past the robot replies for 15 minutes, so I had to go to the branch in person to resolve my billing issue (which meant losing 30 minutes waiting). We rent a car at SJC rental center several times a year and this was easily one of the best experiences. Salomon helped us and he was the epitome of a good person & awesome customer service with a smile. Very personable, efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Got us on the way to our truck in record time while making us feel good about our choice of vehicle and with Hertz in general. He was awesome!! Thanks again Salomon for your awesome service!! There should be more people like you these days 😀👍 thanks Hertz will definitely choose you again and again

This is regarding a booking of May 21 - May 25 in San Jose. When picking up the car I mentioned that I will take care of fueling, no need to buy their fuel service. Before dropping off the car, I filled up the tank completely. Now I received my final statement and they are holding a 28.66 USD fuel & service charge.. There is no way to contact Hertz besides an AI chatbot. The only way to speak to a person is to call their number and choose the 'ongoing rental' option where you have the option to talk to an agent. Tried this multiple times, and even there nobody is picking up the phone! If they do this with multiple rentals, nice extra income! Be careful with this!

Booked a specialty vehicle via a third-party, but none were available at pickup. Initially got a Kia Sportage (not great), then exchanged it for a Jeep Compass—which was a much better experience and made the trip enjoyable. Disappointed that there was no price adjustment despite the downgrade, and it felt like third-party bookings might not be prioritized. Shoutout to Matios for trying to get me a specialty vehicle and helping improve the situation 👍
