We have had some bad experiences renting cars in our travels in the past although I would have to say that National Car Rental in San Jose is one of the best experiences that I have had. The check out was efficient and professional in English with no high pressure to purchase extras. All of our questions were clearly explained. Time with spent with us at the car explaining features as well as going over the car for any possible damage. Return was very efficient with them waiting for us with the shuttle doors open even though it was 3:30 a.m.

For anyone stressing about where to rent a car in Costa Rica - National was amazing for us! They were very fairly priced and everything went wonderfully. We booked though our Chase credit card and it wasn't an issue at all. They didn't push any extras on us, though we did choose to opt in for the full deductible coverage, which was only $10ish dollars a day and super reasonable. The staff was really friendly and helpful and the car was great! We went with a Jimmy and had no issues at all. As far as mandatory coverage - because we booked through a credit card that had rental car insurance coverage, we were all good to go - no need to buy anything on top. Totally stress free and smooth process! Also - sign up for the free membership and it'll be way smoother.

National gives the best customer service and has the right car for your needs. It’s easy to rent a vehicle with National, they take care of you from start to finish meeting all your expectations. I would definitely recommend. Super easy picking up and returning your car through them.

Many models to choose from the Emerald Aisle. Sunday early evening pickup. Not many staff at the garage. Checkout took a bit longer than expected. Additional driver required a lot of data entry as National Car Rental was using a new system.
