For a place to eat or drink, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open now, how long is the wait at peak hours, and does the menu suit the group you are bringing. American restaurants typically run lunch and dinner services with a quieter stretch in between, coffee shops open early, and many kitchens close earlier on Sunday. Cards and tap-to-pay are accepted almost everywhere, a tip of 15-20% is customary for table service, and sales tax is added at the register.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 11:30 am–9 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (213) 346-9762. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, marugamemonzola.com.

Los Angeles is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Traffic in Los Angeles peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. I love everything about this place but the wait to get in! Great atmosphere with amazing service. The food is to gush for and it has very good portions as well. The pricing is good for the quality. ANY time I want some udon, this is my spot hands down.

Marugame Monzo definitely lives up to its reputation when it comes to udon — the noodles were genuinely very good, and I can see why so many people recommend the place. I ordered takeout, though, so I feel like the experience is probably much better when dining in. I tried the miso carbonara udon, and honestly, no regrets — it was rich, flavorful, and unique. That said, the portion size felt pretty small for the price, and overall it came across as quite overpriced for what you get. I enjoyed trying it once, but considering the cost and portion size, I probably wouldn’t go back.

Small udon restaurant that has a Michelin star. Absolutely delicious udon. Loved their seafood curry udon. My husband got a broth udon that he loved. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to come back and try another dish.

A classic in the neighborhood. Their udon has a great texture to it, especially if served cold. Got the cold Ikura udon with grated radish, green onions, seaweed, and broth served on the side. It was refreshing, the broth was salty yet served in a small potion so it wasn’t overwhelming. The Ikura was fresh and zesty. Their tempura appetizer was a great crunchy addition to how soft, salty and chewy the udon noodles were. The only drawback is that when it gets busy, a divider is put between tables, so there’s no privacy and you overhear conversations. Would recommend coming here when it’s more chill. Overall, would recommend for great udon with great texture.

Honestly, I don’t see the hype about this place. I got the beef bukkake udon with an added egg. It was just boring. The noodles were fresh but it didn’t taste anything mind blowing. The service was also very mid. I honestly didn’t know how to eat the cold udon and all I tasted was the daikon so I prob did it completely wrong but they didn’t seem to care. They were very curt with words until I left.
