About Rancho Los Cerritos
Built in 1844, the adobe home and grounds echo with the rich history of Spanish, Mexican, and American California and with the families who helped transform Southern California from its ranching beginnings to the modern and urban society it is today. The two-story Monterey-style adobe is primarily furnished to reflect occupants and lifestyles from the 1860s-1880s. The site, a National, State and Long Beach Historic Landmark, also includes historic gardens and a research library and archives.
The Rancho is operated by the Rancho Los Cerritos Foundation in private-public partnership with the City of Long Beach.

Long Beach is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Long Beach is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

What a great place to visit! And best of all, it's free!! But they do take donations. There's plenty of parking and they offer a guided tour or you can do a self guided tour. The Adobe has changed over time especially during the 1930s when some modern amenities were added but it is still worth visiting. They have many foreign plants and trees including the huge Moreton Big Fig Tree. Enjoy!!!!

Not only is Rancho Los Cerritos an amazing hidden gem of a museum to visit, itβs also a lovely event venue space. We had our wedding here in May and we cannot recommend it enough! The space itself is stunning and it made the most beautiful backdrop for our special day. The Rancho Los Cerritos team was also so incredibly helpful and was available to answer all my questions. Please keep them in mind for your future event needs to help support a wonderful museum!

We enjoyed the scavenger hunt. Thank you for having historic Mexican culture places for our children to experience.

I visited here with a couple other people and we had a volunteer give us a tour of the house and grounds, and we absolutely loved it. The guide was very knowledgeable (I believe his name was Tom) and the tour felt very personable and took about 2 hours, I absolutely recommend getting a tour if you can (it's free!). They also have a little gift shop that had items priced reasonably and I would love to come back when they have their preserves available, as they have multiple fruits on the property (some I'd never even heard of) that the guide told us they make their own preserves from.

This place is beautiful and had lots of history! The outdoor area is suitable for families with children. However, I don't recommend the house for children. During our visit, we encountered an issue at the visitors center. The staff member, who appeared to be a taller Caucasian woman, barged out and did not greet us. Instead, she angrily asked about our service dog, questioning whether it was a legitimate service animal, and asked if we had made a reservation. Her approach was somewhat condescending, and her tone lacked the warmth usually expected in hospitality settings. She asked that I check in inside the visitors center and followed me in, and then left when I signed in on the iPad. No other conversation was had. This interaction was not very welcoming. Despite this, the ranch is pleasant and offers a great experience. It's a great opportunity to else a little about the Bixbys and be in nature.
