Hands down, Runyon Canyon is one of the most unexpected and magical places in Los Angeles. You just don’t expect to find such a vast, beautiful hiking park—complete with on- and off-leash dog areas—in the middle of one of the world’s largest cities. I’ve been coming here for years, ever since I lived in LA, and it’s still my daily love letter to the city. It’s the first place I bring visitors, and even longtime Angelenos are often reminded just how much this park changes with the seasons. Winter and summer feel like two completely different worlds. My favourite entrance is from the Mulholland Drive side. I much prefer starting with the downhill section and finishing with the climb back up. I used to use the Fuller Avenue (Hollywood) entrance, but it can be incredibly congested, and parking is much harder to find. If you can, arrive early—around 7 a.m. is perfect. The cooler temperatures, quieter trails, and morning light make for an unforgettable hike. Spent the afternoon at Runyon Canyon and I can absolutely see why it’s one of LA’s most iconic hikes. The views are stunning, the energy is unmatched, and every turn gives you another picture-perfect backdrop of the city. What I loved most was that it felt like an escape from the chaos of Los Angeles while still being right in the middle of it. Whether you’re looking for a workout, a mental reset, or just a place to soak in some incredible views, Runyon delivers every time. Definitely wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and don’t forget your camera because the scenery is worth capturing. This is one of those LA spots that truly lives up to the hype. ✨🌴🥾

Runyon Canyon Park is one of the most famous and popular natural parks in Los Angeles, situated on the eastern edge of the Santa Monica Mountains directly above Hollywood. While on a solo trip, staying in West Hollywood, LA -I wanted to get a sunrise 🌅 hike in and I'm so glad I checked out the reviews for Runyon Canyon-- it did not disappoint!! The scenic views, clean, paved trails and friendly fellow-hikers was exactly what I needed -nice 2+ mile meditative walk!! This is a must see and do! The trails are a winding incline and much longer than what I did -but not difficult at all...worth every moment!! Captured some great pictures, from early am to sunrise views.

Visited with my family on January 4, 2026. Runyon Canyon Park is one of the best hiking spots in Los Angeles. The trail offers great views of the city, and from certain points you can see Downtown LA, Griffith Observatory, and even the Hollywood Sign from a unique perspective. The terrain goes downhill first and then climbs back up, which can be a bit challenging but still very manageable for most people. Just make sure to carry water, especially on sunny days. Whenever I’m in Los Angeles, this is a hike I never miss.
