Medical services in California range from neighborhood family practices to major hospital systems. Ask whether the provider accepts your plan (Medicare, Medicaid or a private insurer), what the copay is and whether a referral is required. Pharmacies can advise on common ailments and many medicines are available over the counter, but a proper diagnosis from a doctor is the safer route for anything that lasts more than a few days.

Uptown optometry was there for me when I had a sudden retinal tear. They went out of their way and were a most welcome blessing. Great people.

New ownership and they are fantastic! They have branches in North Park, La Jolla and Del Mar. This is super helpful as some family members are in other locations and they share records within the branches. They are kind, patient and super helpful. Can’t recommend Dr Wong, Samantha Daoud and his entire team enough!

So I (Shawn) came to see Dr. Samantha Daoud after an intuition to change from Sharp’s eye doctors. Dr. Daoud’s service experience is remarkable! She is thorough, kind and healing focused. Throughout the diagnosis and fitting, her empathy comes through as she asks questions and patiently helps me. She is efficient but not rushed. She resolved the fit and comfort with my contact lenses and gave me three choices to experience for the next two weeks as well. Dr. Daoud is a game changer for me and my eyesight! Her background is impressive. Especially notable is her work with the Blind, and she comes from a family of healers/ doctors. I am grateful and thrilled to have her as my Eye Doctor. After my follow up visit with Dr. Doud, I referred my wife who is now seeing her. We are telling our coworkers and close friends about Dr. Daoud! Ruth is the Tech assistant that administered the prelude protocols before seeing Dr. Daoud. She's a delightful human being who is engaging and positive. She remembered my face and called me by name when I arrived at my second visit. Nice! Uptown Optomery’s office: This is a classy, beautiful, open and airy office. Far and away the best looking

I was a patient of Dr. Larsen’s for 25 years. When Uptown Optometry called to confirm a “prebooked” appointment, they failed to mention that Dr. Larsen had retired nearly a year ago. I even rescheduled the appointment, still no disclosure. It wasn’t until I was already in the office, halfway through the visit that I specifically asked "Am I not seeing Dr. Larsen?" that I found out I’d be seeing someone new. As a longtime patient, I expected transparency and basic respect. Instead, I was kept in the dark and denied the opportunity to make an informed decision about my care. Withholding a major change like a provider’s retirement feels calculated, not accidental. It was a bait-and-switch, plain and simple, and no reputable practice should operate this way. When I pointed out how inappropriate it was not to disclose Dr. Larsen’s retirement, the assistant seemed more bothered that I was upset than concerned about the lack of transparency. She even said, “We have a script,” referring to the phone call, making it clear this isn’t a one-off misstep, but a deliberate approach. And when I asked her name, she replied, “I am a human being.” Not exactly the professionalism one hopes for duri

I've been a patient at Uptown Optometry for more than 10 years. When I heard that Dr. Larson had retired and sold his practice, I was understandably concerned that the new owners would not meet Dr. Larson's high standards. Today was my first appointment. I'm happy to say that everything I liked about Uptown optometry continues under the new owners. The staff continues to be excellent, knowledgeable, personable, and professional. Dr. Heely (sp?) is an excellent optometrist. She is personable, professional, transparent about everything that is being done during the examination. She had taken time to learn something of my history which made me feel comfortable. She answered my questions and provided excellent care and medical advice. I highly recommend Uptown Optometry.
