About Donna Jean
Plant-based handmade pastas and pizza

It is listed at 2611 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92104, which places it among the local businesses of San Diego that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. For a place to eat or drink, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open now, how long is the wait at peak hours, and does the menu suit the group you are bringing. American restaurants typically run lunch and dinner services with a quieter stretch in between, coffee shops open early, and many kitchens close earlier on Sunday. Cards and tap-to-pay are accepted almost everywhere, a tip of 15-20% is customary for table service, and sales tax is added at the register.
Hours are published for 5 days a week. The most common schedule is 5β9 pm. Note that it does not open on Tuesday, Thursday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (619) 299-5500. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, donnajeanrestaurant.com.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 1,241 reviews, which is a strong result for a vegetarian in San Diego and suggests consistent service.
San Diego is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Diego is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Absolutely fantastic! The food is delicious, fresh, and so flavorful! They also are accommodating for pets with a cute patio you can sit in with heaters if needed. The CAST IRON SKILLET COOKIE WAS UNREAL. Iβll be making a trip back just for that. And I canβt forget about the cast iron mac and cheese as well. Truly nailed the macaroni and cheese flavorβ so cheesy, rich, baked, and comforting!

Mushroom lover here. Warning: Hot shrooms gave me acid reflux for the whole day. Order and proceed with caution. I ordered food at evolution, the fast food vegan restaurant nestled on the right side of the building, before going to Donna Jean so Donna let me order "to go". After 10 minutes, they placed the to go box along with a fork and knife at my table in evolution. Hot shrooms ($19) comes with 2 deep fried king oyster mushrooms doused in buffalo sauce, a slice of toasted bread, and 3-4 pickles. The shrooms were delicious crunchy on top. Unfortunately, the breading was congealing/mushing together in between the shroom layers. Because of this, only the top was appetizing. Out of the 2 mushrooms, I only ate 0.25 and it still gave me acid reflux for the rest of the day. To be clear, I opened the to go box immediately upon touchdown so this is definitely not what caused the mushrooms breading mess. If I could redo, I would absolutely not order the mushrooms again.

A menu that you would not know is fully vegan unless you knew that beforehand! The food is incredible and the service is extremely accommodating. The menu rotates seasonally but is always solid. The pastas are fresh and cooked with traditional recipes modified to fit the vegan diet. The real stars are the pizzas--with the #1 Crush being our favorite item during our dinner. Will definitely be back here again soon!

All around bad experience. Both vegetarians in the group were super disappointed; one had been before and said it was good, but after this experience she would not recommend it again. The Mac and cheese had a certain texture that it should never have. The pizza had overly sweet chunks of dates, not like a well integrated spread. Refills were not forthcoming. Service was a single waitress working the restaurant alone, and overworked. It took forever to get the food, and the check. The waitress did not want us to come up to the counter to pay and let us leave, she had to bring us a printed check, but insisted on clearing the table before bringing it.

Excellent fresh baked bread with gluten so I didn't have it. They also have Interesting plant based combinations. I loved the Caesar salad and gluten free lasagna, my husband loved his with gluten. My daughter wasn't wild about the pasta dumplings. The widow gluten free pizza had awesome thick dough but the date paste with the kale and some spice wasn't a good combo for us. I would love it much better without the date paste. I'm sure they can omit that. Still recommend trying it out! I support their vegan creativity
