For a place to eat or drink, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open now, how long is the wait at peak hours, and does the menu suit the group you are bringing. American restaurants typically run lunch and dinner services with a quieter stretch in between, coffee shops open early, and many kitchens close earlier on Sunday. Cards and tap-to-pay are accepted almost everywhere, a tip of 15-20% is customary for table service, and sales tax is added at the register.

San Jose is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Jose is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

The loganisa sando with hashbrown was very good. The egg very fluffy, the hashbrown was very crunchy, and the loganisa was soft and delicious. The toast was toasted very well and held up the sandwich. The staff was nice and efficient with their orders. There was a long line of people but it felt like it moved quickly and seats also opened up quickly. We also got the ube mochi to go which was pretty good. The shop has lots of cute decorations and figurines and the like. It feels like a good place to also get some coffee and relax when it's less busy.

After a long wait for this place, I finally decided to try it out. Parking was a bit of a challenge since it’s right in the heart of downtown San Jose. The cozy atmosphere and quick, friendly service made up for the parking hassle. I couldn’t resist trying their best sellers, so I ordered the fruit sandos and the chicken sandos. The fruit sandos were a delightful surprise. The roasted almond shokupan bread was soft and fluffy, and the filling was a perfect combination of fresh strawberries, lightly sweetened cream, and a hint of tartness. The cream was not too overpowering, allowing the berries to shine. The chicken sandos were equally impressive. The chicken was tender and juicy, and the salad was crisp and refreshing. The bread was light and fluffy, adding to the overall deliciousness of the sandwich. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a tasty and satisfying sandwich. It was worth the time and money spent.

Milk Belly Bakery absolutely deserves 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We tried their sandwiches and they are seriously next level—every bite is packed with amazing, bold flavors that feel both comforting and unique. You can tell there’s real intention behind the food, not just in taste but in quality and care. What stood out just as much as the food is the heart behind this place. I’m all about good food, but I’m even more about community—and Milk Belly delivers on both. There’s an authenticity here that you can feel, from the flavors to the people behind the counter. The staff is kind, welcoming, and makes the whole experience even better. And don’t sleep on the pastries—they’re incredible (and yes, they sell out early for a reason). Everything feels fresh, thoughtful, and made with pride. Also, shoutout to the team T-shirts—they say a lot about what this place represents, and it’s something worth supporting. Overall, an amazing spot with great food, great people, and a strong sense of community. Definitely check them out.

Very nice food and jpop playlist…. The hongkong toast is amazing with right amount of peanut butter, condensed milk and brown sugar butter. Not to mention the french toast. The pandan butter mochi is super soft and BUTTERY. The shokupan is also great with elastic textures and strong and shiny bread crusts. Worth visiting and will visit again.

I’d had this bakery saved for a while and finally decided to stop by when we were craving something sweet. The line was very long, and the ordering process moved slowly, but everything looked so fresh that we decided to wait it out. We picked up a whole loaf of their fresh bread — one of the last few available — and it was absolutely worth it! I also ordered the fruit sando with strawberries and whipped cream, which was light, fresh, and delicious. We asked the staff for drink recommendations and ended up trying the Kyobancha Iced Tea and the Sweet Yuzu Tea — both were refreshing and perfectly balanced. I’d love to return to try their breakfast sandwiches and pies next time. Just a heads-up: this place gets quite busy on Saturdays, so visiting on a weekday might be a better option if you want to avoid the line that often stretches out the door. Parking can be tricky since it’s located in the middle of downtown — there’s no parking directly in front of the bakery, but there are metered spots about a block away in either direction.
