I am leaving this rating due to the unacceptable treatment my family member received during their stay at this hospital. The general care provided by the nursing and floor staff leaves much to be desired. First and foremost, the lack of hygiene is alarming. They do not keep the patients' environment clean, allowing the room to develop bad odors without anyone coming in to clean it. Furthermore, the staff on duty do not check on patients as frequently as needed, showing an absolute lack of interest in their well-being. When asked for help, the staff is extremely rude, displaying a heavy attitude, bad tempers, and even subtle racist undertones. We, the family members, also suffered from this terrible service and lack of respect every single time we tried to ask a question or request assistance. The only redeeming and truly professional part of this facility is the therapy team. I want to deeply thank Isabell and Sarah (from outpatient/OP and OT). They were excellent professionals highly patient and dedicated. They help patients immensely with their recovery and are always genuinely willing to answer any questions or concerns the family has. My grandmother has been a resident here for over a month, and our experience with the staff has been very positive. From the front desk team to the medical providers, everyone has been friendly, patient, helpful, and professional. They have consistently treated her with kindness and respect. While the building and amenities could benefit from some updates, the quality of care and service provided by the staff has been good.

Hi there I have been in this hospital for about close to two weeks now and I have found that the doctors are very helpful and supportive and they have encouraged me to do some exercises with the physical and occupational therapist and to get me out of the bed. I also have found that the nurses have been helpful for the most part and they are very supportive and helpful and they are also very knowledgeable in how they treat their patients. I have only encountered one or two nurses who were not very helpful or supportive in my treatment. I would strongly recommend this hospital to anyone who needs some care. I don’t understand why the doctors keep saying to that theirs another test that I have to go through when I only came here to complete my antibiotics and then I was to go back to my own apartment where I have a caregiver and also 24/7 help around the clock. I really want to get back into my semi normal life. I don’t trust any of these doctors here in this hospital.

Avoid this place if you care about your loved one and want to see them get better. My husband is a lung transplant recipient so after a long hospital admittance he couldn’t go into a normal rehab which brought us to Select. He was transferred on a Friday to begin his progress. That was a big mistake. He was forced to lay in bed all weekend. Also they did not see or authorize the swallow test he passed at ucsd so for the entire weekend he wasn’t allowed real food. The pharmacist at ucsd and I went over my husbands medication list thoroughly before the transfer and I was assured it would be sent with him. For 4 days at Select they kept telling me they couldn’t find or give me the information. After 2 phone calls with 2 confirmations of faxes sent to Select from UCSD, after complaining enough I finally got it. Select set up a meeting with me to have all their key players (ot, pt, case worker, charge nurse etc) discuss his care and progress moving forward. More than half did not show. No pt, no ot, no doctor, no case worker. Then I find out nobody works on the weekend and it was a holiday weekend so my husband would have just been laying there for over 4 days. I am writing to share my experience during my seven-day stay at Select Specialty Hospital, originally scheduled for eight days. After a minor procedure at Scripps in La Jolla and three days of observation, I was transferred to Select Specialty Hospital for recovery. Despite mixed reviews, I decided to give it a chance after speaking with Clinical Liaison Michelle Zhao. Upon arrival, the hospital felt eerie, and I was initially placed in a room with unsuitable roommates. The hospital seemed a little rundown and a lot of equipment seemed outdated. After raising my concerns with the supervisor nurse, Heather, I was moved to a more appropriate room, although it was initially bare and lacked basic amenities. A major issue arose with a male nurse who was unprofessional during wound care, prioritizing taking a photo of my wound over patient privacy (name unknown, Indian man with manbun). Heather promptly addressed this by assigning a more competent nurse and adjusting my uncomfortable bed. The situation improved from Saturday onwards with better nursing care and professionalism, despite some confinement to my room over the weekend. My doctor, Dr. Tran, was rarely seen and not very hel
