I'm late to post this review, but it looks like the hotel had their star/class lowered from 4 star to 3 star from when I was last there. This is a historic hotel and it's kind of quirky because of it. If you enjoy historic hotels that still has a lot of it's historical elements, then this is the hotel. I enjoyed this place because of it, all though sometimes the historic aspects weren't well done and made the hotel feel less luxurious than it was when I stayed there, which was rated as a 4 star hotel. For example, the halls are super dark and not well light. At night it felt creepy with how dark and narrow the halls were. I wished they had brighter lighting. The rooms are pretty small, but it was nice to see all the historic aspect of the room. The drapery on the windows did feel outdated and my room was showing a lot of wear. Overall, I think this hotel can really do well if they updated the hotel. There are many ways to keep the historical parts of the hotel without feeling outdated or losing those historical elements.

This is a historic hotel with smaller yet efficient rooms. The sink placement right next to the room door is unusual, and the sliding door to bathroom doesn't fully close, so this room is more suited to solo travelers or couples who don't need privacy from one another. The hallways are oddly dark, yet there's a nice 24-hour gym and a decent yoga room. The staff are friendly, but the best thing about the hotel is the location. You can save a bundle by using the 992 city bus for a fast ride to and from the airport, and the neighborhood has you within a short walk of tons of restaurants and bars within the Gaslamp district.

Did not stay at the hotel. Did go up and visit the rooftop bar. Decent little menu to choose from. Server was very friendly and helpful with making choices. Great view of the water and downtown area. Look straight down on the ball field. It is 21 and over only at the bar so don't plan on going with children. Great place to watch the sunset and have a good drink.
