San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and San Francisco follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Spiritual haven in the middle of the lost city of San Francisco. Perfect for those seeking truth and life. Please speak to the priests if you visit. St John of San Francisco pray to God for us.

this church stands out from far away for her beauty and inside is so beautiful and you can see the preserved body of the saint.

Beautiful icons cover the walls. Very worth a visit. People come in to pray briefly when liturgy is not being celebrated. It is Russian Orthodox. There is a small shop inside the entrance and another larger one outside. You can buy icons for a reasonable price.

The Holy Virgin Cathedral rises with a quiet majesty, its golden domes catching the light like prayers lifted into the sky. There is a stillness here that feels deliberate, as if time itself slows out of respect for what has been held sacred for generations. The architecture speaks in symbols rather than words crosses, icons, and arches forming a language of faith, memory, and devotion. Even from the outside, the cathedral carries a sense of refuge, a place where reverence lingers in the air. The painted saints gaze outward not as spectators, but as guardians, offering a silent welcome to all who pass. It is a space that invites reflection, humility, and awe in equal measure. Standing before it, one feels not overwhelmed, but gently reminded of something eternal.

What an incredibly beautiful treasure the Holy Virgin Cathedral Russian Orthodox Church is, not just to San Francisco, but also to the world! This is one of the six largest Russian Orthodox Churches in the world, outside of Russia. Itβs absolutely stunning and you do feel a sense of awe just by walking inside. I havenβt been on a Sunday to attend the liturgy, but I could imagine that it would be very beautiful and touching, given how stunningly gorgeous this church is.

Such a beatiful and holy place. One of the most intense experiences I've ever had. A fragment of heaven descends upon this temple during liturgy. Glory to God unto the ages.

St. John is the wonder priest who is known for his effort to work with the State Department to bring and resettle about five thousand Chinese orphanages in the US. His work is considered a herculean task of that old time due to geographical distance, politics, and financial means that he has to overcome.

This church looks astonishing from the street, with its exotic gold domes. Inside is even more jaw-dropping: it's completely full of portraits of saints in Golden frames, and relics of the saints. This is not my tradition, but the interior space is very moving: right next to the hustle of Geary Boulevard, the saints rest quietly. And you can light a candle and be with them.
